Weekly Update for Week 32 4/13 - 4/17
Updated: Apr 21
First of all, I pray everyone is doing well both physically and emotionally. These are unprecedented times.
We all know that schools can be a petri dish for germs, so I am in 100% in agreement that it is best the school building remain closed however, learning continues.
At this time I have assigned work via Khan Academy. After the Spring Break (March 30 - April 3), I will be adding additional assignments and be available for office hours once a week.
In addition, I will be checking in with students about missing work for Quarter 3. Quarter 3 consists of any work assigned through March 6th. Quarter 3 report cards will be sent out after April 8th, but students can turn in missing assignments up until May 15th.
Despite the district's distribution of iPad, I'm certain these assignments (after March 6th) still create a hardship for some families. These assignments are supplemental, the purpose of these assignments is to continue with math concepts necessary for future studies. There is a high probability that there will not be a report card for the fourth quarter. Please keep up with the SFUSD and James Denman Websites for information about school closures and report cards.
My personal view is that students should not be on a computer for more than 2 hours per day. There is a benefit to working and maintaining some normalcy for students, there are also reasons to take a break. Each family must decide what works best for their student. After Spring Break, assignments will be given on Monday and due on Friday. Students may skip a week of assignments as you see fit. Once again wishing us all good mental and physical health.
